A Pretty Perfect Day

Sunday, July 10, 2016

Yesterday was a pretty good day.

The baby woke me up at 6:40 a.m. Not great. The day didn't seem promising.

But I rallied and we let daddy sleep in while we played and had breakfast. Just before 9, we woke Ben up, I left for a run (3 miles. And hot. Oh so hot.) By the time I got home, Lyla was down for her nap. After a quick shower, I headed to Starbucks and then Marshall's to wonder aimlessly. My meditative happy place.

Post-meditation, I headed home where the baby was awake and ready for lunch. After lunch, we headed to a local kiddy pool with some friends and their kiddos where we had a blast and I took exactly zero pictures. Rookie blogger move. But lots of water + small toddler = cell phone disaster waiting to happen.

Once our kids were over the water, our friends suggested going to Mugs Up. I'd heard of the place, but never been, so we went along. Mugs Up has been a Columbia, MO institution since 1955. It's a tiny drive-up complete with carhops. Their rootbeer floats are their trademark. Because I'm lame, I don't like rootbeer. I had a Diet Coke float. Like a boss.

Also they only take cash or check (huh?), which we were not prepared for - so, shout out to Colin and Brittany for treating us to lunch!

The afternoon meant another nap for the baby and even a short one for mama. Oh, there were a couple of errands and a load of laundry because this is still real life. But still, yesterday was a pretty good day.

Hello.

Hi. I'm Nicole and this is my little corner of the interwebs.

This has been a tough week. The national news has been sad and my heart has been heavy. As I've struggled to understand the complicated nature of the issues facing this country, I've found myself missing something. An outlet.

I've considered starting a blog for years. I've started before and quit. I convince myself over and over again that I'm just a blog reader. Not a blogger. There's no place for me here.

But I have things to say. I'm at an interesting and exciting point in my life (married, baby, dogs...okay, maybe not so exciting?). Ultimately I want to have a place where I can share photos and have a record of this phase of life. And I'm a year into this whole motherhood thing and I'm missing a part of something I used to enjoy and be pretty okay at: writing. So two birds, one stone. You know?

Anyway. That's not the most exciting, intriguing or informative start to Casa COMO; I promise to be better.
